Who Am I And Should You Care? |
I was born, William Lewis Butler, in Washington DC in the middle 1950s. Our family relocated to Los Angeles in 1960 and I lived there until joining the service in ‘75. During my time in the military I was station twice in the US and twice in Germany. The second and final tour in Germany was in Berlin, where among other duties, I was one of the sergeants (NCOIC for those familiar with Army acronyms) at Checkpoint Charlie before the wall came down.In late 1982, my service tour ended and my wife and I settled (quite by accident) in the Piney Woods area of Northeast Texas. The area suited our desire to raise a family in a small, rural community. I continued in Law Enforcement until 1990 when I left the local police department to work for the Texas Attorney General’s Office. I stayed with the State until 1999 when I made yet another career change and I am now working in the Information Technology field with the school district in Gilmer, Texas.
Through all the career changes, one thing has remained constant–my writing. I began in my high school years, toying with plot and character development. Soon after leaving the service, I joined the East Texas Writers’ Association. During that time, I learned much from the other members; published and unpublished alike. As well, my focus was on short fiction and I had dreams of becoming a world renouned shortstory author. While my work won contest awards and saw limited publication, the dream was never realized.
Somewhere along the way, and at the prompting of my fellow writers, I decided to try my hand at long fiction. In the middle 1990s, while still with the Attorney General’s Office, I found myself in Austin for a bit of training. During some of the downtime, I began scribbling notes on a legal pad and thus started what would become my first novel.
I REMEMBER TOMORROW (ISBN: 1424188903) went to press on July 16, 2007 and is published by Publish America, LLLC. Presently it is available at a wide range of online bookstores including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, The Book Pl@ce, Wal-Mart, Target, and the Publish America online store.
My next project is somewhat ambitious. It’s a multi-generational tale of witches, dragons, time travel, and a great war between the haves and have-nots. I was recently accepted into the family of authors at Amazon shorts and you can expect to see works appear in that forum that relate to, but will not be included in my next novel. The story, as a whole, is large enough that there are many side stories relating to the world in which it exists. So, keep an eye out for shorts from William Butler on Amazon Shorts.
That’s it for now. Keep an eye out for frequent updates.
